As part of the associated program of the Contemporaine, Nîmes’ Conservatory offers several concerts around the themes of the triennial, with students and teachers, throughout the city between April and June 2024. For Conservatoire en fête and the Fête de la musique, works from the repertoire and original compositions that evoke youth, escape, or intergenerational transmission are highlighted.
Students from the conservatoire also participate in two key events of the Contemporaine: La Fugue with Uèle Lamore, on Friday, April 5, and Le Jeu with Dimitri Chamblas, on Saturday, May 25.
Nîmes Departmental Conservatory (Conservatoire à Rayonnement Départemental – CRD) is an artistic teaching establishment specializing in music, dance and drama.
Placed under the pedagogical supervision of the French Ministry of Culture and Communication, it is attached to the city of Nîmes’ Artistic and Performing Arts Education department, which includes the Théâtre Christian Liger.
The CRD of Nîmes is a center for initial education, welcoming children from the age of 5 in addition to required general education, and offering training courses for amateur practice in three artistic specialties: Music, Dance and Drama. In partnership with the French Ministry of Education, specially scheduled music classes enable the most passionate students to pursue their art with greater flexibility and commitment (from 1st to 9th grade).
With its vocation to nurture tomorrow’s professional artists by opening the doors to higher education, Nîmes CRD has been part of a regional network including the Conservatories of Béziers, Carcassonne, Narbonne and Perpignan, since 2016.
