A fugue evokes both the act of temporarily escaping from the place where one usually lives, especially in adolescence, and a type of musical composition. What if the two meanings of the word were to coexist for an evening? A musical journey through the city to accompany the opening of the exhibition “La Fleur et la Force” [The Flower and the Strength], “La Fugue” is a sound creation by conductor and composer Uèle Lamore, performed by several ensembles of instrumentalists students from Nîmes’ Music Conservatory. Brass, strings, and winds come together to play a new kind of fugue, combining classical instruments and electronic compositions, in exhilarating loops. Far from a conventional stage show, “La Fugue” takes the form of several spontaneous appearances in public spaces and exhibition venues, punctuating this first moment of discovery of the Contemporaine de Nîmes, and encouraging us to escape – with music! – for a few hours.
