ÉSBAN – ÉCOLE SUPÉRIEURE DES BEAUX-ARTS DE NÎMES
10 Grand-Rue, 30000 Nîmes
For the opening weekend of the 1st Contemporaine de Nîmes, the ésban invites you to its four o’clock. New youth is everywhere, scattered throughout the Hôtel Rivet, behind doors, on every landing, on the walls. You can hear it singing through an open window, buzzing in the stairwell. Without being captive to a theme, the works express themselves fully in their polysemy, bouncing back and forth like a series of dominoes. The four o’clock is best enjoyed as a snack, picking up bits and pieces here and there, and taking fragments away with you: each work is extended by a postcard, sharing the experience of the work.
And also: party bars in the school courtyard, podcasts on the artists of the Contemporaine, screenings, access to student studios…
With : Assia Badri, Else Bedoux, Emma Garcia, Thelma Garcia, Léa Garrigues, Gwennan Jolivet, Alix Jolly, Won Jy, Myriam Kerrache, Eva Khatchadourian, Malaury Landas, Kris Le Bas, France-Lan Lê Vu, Amandine Lietard, Laure Marc, Anaïs Roubertou, Juliette Vergori and Andréanne Béguin, curator and independent art critic.
Andréanne Béguin benefited from the L’Avancée program of the Pernod Ricard Foundation in 2022-2023, in collaboration with the Beaux-Arts de Paris “artists and exhibition professions” program.
Other participation by ésban students in the Contemporaine de Nîmes:
Students of the school are also involved in several projects related to the triennial: production of podcasts on several of the exhibition’s artists broadcast during the festival and on RayVox radio; collaboration with Suzanne Husky and Green Resistance for the exhibition project at the Chapelle des Jésuites; collaboration with Alassan Diawara for his exhibition project at Carré d’Art – Contemporary Art Museum; participation in the creation of Dimitri Chamblas as part of the key events; partnership with the Delco Festival for the concert by Thomas Tilly and Jean-Luc Guionnet featured in the associated program.
Ésban is a higher education establishment under the aegis of the French Ministry of Culture, training around 120 students each year for careers in art and design. ésban promotes a pedagogy of creation through creation, a real laboratory for experimentation and research. The faculty is composed mainly of artists, art researchers and art critics. Numerous guest lecturers, including artists, writers, photographers, filmmakers, curators, art critics and researchers in social sciences, contribute to the teaching program throughout the year. ésban also plays an important role on the cultural scene, through its program of exhibitions and conferences, both inside and outside its historic Hôtel Rivet building.
