CACN – CONTEMPORARY ART CENTER OF NÎMES
4 place Roger Bastide, 30900 Nîmes
On the occasion of the 1st Contemporaine de Nîmes, the CACN – Contemporary Art Center of Nîmes invites Figure Figure to design an exhibition within the art center.
Figure Figure is a digital magazine founded in 2017, which has brought together some sixty interviews with emerging artists from the French and British art scenes since its first publication. These interviews are the result of personal exchanges between critics and artists. They provide an opportunity for confidence and discussions about life trajectories where intimacy, politics and art intertwine.
Figure Figure‘s exhibition at the CACN functions as a dialogue between the textual material of the interviews and the artists’ works. It showcases the relationship between the artist and the critic, between the work and its discourse. It also brings together two territories where cultural exchanges are taking place.
Each of the eight rooms in the art center presents works by artists from these two scenes, based on common questions and sensitivities, addressing recurring and significant subjects for the new generation, and thereby reflecting Figure Figure‘s editorial adventure over the past seven years.
With: Alex Margo Arden, Elsa Brès, Débora Delmar, Kenny Dunkan, Tyler Eash, Eva Gold, Georgina Hill, Joey Holder, Youri Johnson, Tarek Lakhrissi, Margot Pietri, Harilay Rabenjamina, Anaïs Tohé-Commaret, Jenkin van Zyl
Curators: Noam Alon, Indira Beraud, Mathilde Cassan
The CACN – Contemporary Art Center was inaugurated in 2017 in a former ironworks in the Montcalm-République district, close to the city center. After a period of itinerancy during 2020, the art center’s activities are permanently installed in 2021 in a municipal building in the Pissevin-Valdegour district. The aim of the CACN – Contemporary Art Center is to support creation, promote artists and distribute contemporary art locally, regionally, nationally and internationally. Projects are developed in the form of exhibitions, publications, artistic events (performances, screenings, conferences, etc.) and collaborative projects through artist and curator residencies. The CACN also publishes a free magazine based on the research of French and foreign curators, entitled Coopérative Curatoriale.
