The Place du Chapitre is located next to the cathedral and the Museum of Old Nîmes, and is designed around a staircase fountain. It was redeveloped in 2007 by architects Dominique Pierre and Philippe Ghezzi. The project is organized around three elements: a reception area – the Museum of Old Nîmes forecourt; a central space unifying the whole – the Place du Chapitre itself; and an amenity area – the Museum’s garden, which consists of a geometric garden following the layout of the 17th-century flowerbeds, and a terraced garden providing a transition between the street and the Place du Chapitre.
