Portrait of Virgil Vernier.

Born in 1976, Virgil Vernier is a French actor and filmmaker who lives and works in Paris. After obtaining a master’s degree in philosophy, he studied for two years at the Beaux-Arts de Paris where he met Christian Boltanski, who guided him in the making of his first films. In 2007, he gained recognition with the release of “Chroniques”, depicting the lives and dreams of five characters born in 1980. He co-directed “Commissariat” with Ilan Klipper in 2010. In 2009, his short film “Thermidor” was selected for the Quinzaine des cinéastes at the Cannes Film Festival. That same year, his documentary feature “Autoproduction”, following the shooting of a film in Belleville, was presented at the Cinema du Réel festival in Paris. The following year at Cannes, his short film “Pandore, depicting the entrance of a Parisian nightclub, was screened as part of the ACID selection. Continuing to create numerous short films such as “Orléans”, “Andore”, “Vega”, and “Iron Maiden”, Virgil Vernier directed his first feature film, “Mercuriales”, in 2014. His latest film, “Sophia Antipolis”, was presented in the Cineasti del presente selection at the 2018 Locarno Film Festival.
