Portrait of Katja Novitskova.

Born in 1984, Katja Novitskova is an Estonian artist who lives and works in Amsterdam. She studied graphic design at the Sandberg Instituut and was a resident at the Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten (Amsterdam). As a leading figure in the ‘post-internet’ art movement, her work has been exhibited in numerous institutions around the world: Fries Museum, Leeuwarden, MGK Siegen (2023); Migros Museum (Zürich) and Sharjah Art Foundation in 2020; Hamburger Bahnhof in Berlin (Preis der Nationalgalerie, nomination 2019); Whitechapel Gallery (London, 2018); Palais de Tokyo (Paris, 2018 and 2017); K11 Foundation (Shanghai, 2017); Kunstverein Hamburg, Museum Folkwang, Essen (Nam June Paik Award), 9th Berlin Biennale, Ullens Center for Contemporary Art (Beijing) in 2016; MoMA (New York),13th Lyon Biennale, Kunsthalle Lissabon in 2015… In 2017, she represented Estonia at the 57th Venice Biennale. Katja Novitskova studies the ongoing ecological transformations of natural and technological processes in today’s world, and develops a personal approach to interpreting their complex forms. Her work includes sculptures, installations and artist publications. Katja Novitskova is represented by Kraupa-Tuskany Zeidler gallery (Berlin) and Temnikova & Kasela gallery (Tallinn).
