Ali Cherri
Born in Beirut in 1976, Ali Cherri is a Lebanese artist and film-maker who lives and works between Paris and Beirut. His work has been the subject of solo exhibitions in France and abroad, notably at the Frac Bretagne (Rennes), the GAMeC (Bergamo), the Swiss Institute (New York) and the National Gallery (London). He has also recently been exhibited at the Institut Valencià d’Art Modern (Valencia), the Jameel Arts Centre (Dubai), Para Site (Hong Kong), MAXXI (Rome), the Centre Pompidou (Paris), the 22nd Secs Videobrasil Biennial, the 5th Kochi Biennial, the 15th Sharjah Biennial, Manifesta 13, the 5th Ural Industrial Biennial of Contemporary Art, and the 8th Melle International Biennial of Contemporary Art. In 2022, he was awarded the Silver Lion for his participation in the International Art Exhibition at the 59th Venice Biennale. His work can be found in many prominent public and private collections. Ali Cherri’s work explores temporal shifts between ancient worlds and contemporary societies, whose logics tend between the constitution of a founding origin and the myth of unlimited progress.
